school profiles

Please note | we’re building a new interactive mapping tool to make it easier to find schools using a familiar web interface, and will no longer be using the maps on this page. Because of that, these interactive maps show the boundaries for the 2013-14 school year, and may not be accurate for the 2014-15 school year. For current information, please refer to the “find a school by address” tool to find your designated school, see the list of schools by residential district and grade, or visit the school profile of the school you’re interested in to see the walk zone map in PDF. Thanks for your understanding, and we look forward to sharing our new site with you soon.

The National Sport School is located at Canada Olympic Park. The Sport School accepts students from Grades 9 to 12. To be eligible for admission to the National Sport School, a student athlete must:
  • be recommended and receive sanction from an eligible Canadian Olympic Sport governing body
  • be a Canadian student eligible to enter Grades 9 through 12 in Alberta
  • obtain approval from the Sport School selection committee.

  • About the School

The school was established to enable athletically-talented students to complete a high school education while continuing their athletic competition in international sports. It is a partnership between the Calgary Board of Education and WinSport Canada. Students enrolled in the school represent twenty-one different Olympic sports.

The members of the teaching staff at the Sport School are Calgary Board of Education employees who have applied to teach in this unique and exciting environment which offers opportunities for both innovation and flexibility. Each teacher is also a teacher-advisor, acting as an advocate for a small number of students, grouped by sport.

Technology is integrated into all courses at the Sport School, and the school operates as a hybrid educational environment. All courses are offered as a blend of face to face and online instruction, supported by distributed access through Desire2Learn (D2L), an online learning management tool. As well, students have the use of a bank of circulating laptops allowing them to maintain contact with the school while they are away training or competing.
