About the School
|
|
The school was established to enable athletically-talented students to complete a high school education while continuing their athletic competition in international sports. It is a partnership between the Calgary Board of Education and WinSport Canada. Students enrolled in the school represent twenty-one different Olympic sports. The members of the teaching staff at the Sport School are Calgary Board of Education employees who have applied to teach in this unique and exciting environment which offers opportunities for both innovation and flexibility. Each teacher is also a teacher-advisor, acting as an advocate for a small number of students, grouped by sport. Technology is integrated into all courses at the Sport School, and the school operates as a hybrid educational environment. All courses are offered as a blend of face to face and online instruction, supported by distributed access through Desire2Learn (D2L), an online learning management tool. As well, students have the use of a bank of circulating laptops allowing them to maintain contact with the school while they are away training or competing.
