James Fowler High School is located in the northwest community of Highland Park, serving the communities of Cambrian Heights, Castleridge, Coral Springs, Falconridge, Greenview, Highland Park, Highwood, Martindale, Monterey Park, North Haven, Pineridge, Queen's Park Village, Rundle, Taradale, Temple, Thorncliffe, Tuxedo Park, Whitehorn, and Winston Heights/Mount View. Junior High feeder schools to James Fowler High School are Annie Gale, Balmoral, Clarence Sansom, Colonel Irvine, Colonel Macleod, Dr. Gordon Higgins, Georges P. Vanier, Sir John A. Macdonald, Sir John Franklin, Sir Wilfrid Laurier, and Terry Fox.
About the School
The school was built in 1962 and is situated on 13.34 acres. The school has 78 classrooms, a library, beauty culture room, music room, art room, drama room, theater, 3 gymnasiums, 6 science labs, a staff planning room, business education labs, 12 CTS technical shops.
About School Name
The school was named in memory of a well-known and outstanding Alberta educator - Dr. James Fowler. Dr. Fowler built his life around education. His first teaching job in Calgary was as a high school teacher at Crescent Heights High School - at a time when it was housed at the building now known as Balmoral Junior High School. He retired as Principal of the Southern Institute of Technology and Art in 1952.
