school profiles

Please note | we’re building a new interactive mapping tool to make it easier to find schools using a familiar web interface, and will no longer be using the maps on this page. Because of that, these interactive maps show the boundaries for the 2013-14 school year, and may not be accurate for the 2014-15 school year. For current information, please refer to the “find a school by address” tool to find your designated school, see the list of schools by residential district and grade, or visit the school profile of the school you’re interested in to see the walk zone map in PDF. Thanks for your understanding, and we look forward to sharing our new site with you soon.

Fish Creek School is located in the centre of the community of Sundance, which is located south and west of Fish Creek Park and east of Macleod Trail. Fish Creek is one of two public elementary schools serving the community, and is the designated school for Grade 5 and 6 students from the community of Chaparral. Our students move on to MidSun School for Grades 7 to 9 and Centennial High School, both of which are in the Sundance community. Fish Creek is a dynamic school community consisting of more than 50 professional and support staff, over 550 students and 350 plus volunteers, united in a spirit of cooperation. The communities of Sundance and Chaparral are representative of middle-to-upper class socio-economic areas with a relatively low transiency rate resulting in a fairly stable student population. Two exceptional environmental resources - Fish Creek Park and Lake Sundance - lie within walking distance of the school. All families are a vital part of our learning environment as high expectations for learning and behaviour are shared between home and school.

About the School

Fish Creek boasts a modern, twelve-year-old facility. Constructed in two stages, the first phase was completed in September 1992 and the second phase in September 1994. The school facility is a combination of open, closed and team teaching classroom spaces. The skylights, unique architectural design, cozy corners, multi-purpose area, and new equipment and furnishings add tremendously to the creation of a warm, inviting learning environment. It is served by a library/media resource centre, an enriched technology program, a large sunken gymnasium and a music program. Interesting bay window nooks and skylit areas enable natural light to permeate the building. Creative design offers flexible quality learning and teaching possibilities within the building. Our school grounds are extensive, hosting playing areas for baseball and soccer as well as creative playgrounds.

About School Name

The name was one of a number of possibilities suggested by the community. When the vote was held, Fish Creek was the first choice of the community and was approved by the Board of Trustees in May 1993.
