school profiles

Please note | we’re building a new interactive mapping tool to make it easier to find schools using a familiar web interface, and will no longer be using the maps on this page. Because of that, these interactive maps show the boundaries for the 2013-14 school year, and may not be accurate for the 2014-15 school year. For current information, please refer to the “find a school by address” tool to find your designated school, see the list of schools by residential district and grade, or visit the school profile of the school you’re interested in to see the walk zone map in PDF. Thanks for your understanding, and we look forward to sharing our new site with you soon.

Alice Jamieson Girls' Academy in Stanley Jones School is located in the northeast community of Renfrew. This alternative program is available to any girl in grades 4-9 in Calgary. Students of Alice Jamieson Girls' Academy move on to their community high school.

About the School

The instructional space for Alice Jamieson Girls' Academy is on the second floor of Stanley Jones School. Stanley Jones opened in 1913 and is made of sandstone that was hauled by horse and wagon from the Shaganappi quarry. Spacious classrooms with large windows have been recently upgraded to make this historic building a wonderful site for the Alice Jamieson Girls' Academy.

About School Name

This alternative program is named after Alice Jamieson who came to Calgary in 1902. Her contribution to building a strong community includes the development of Calgary's Local Council of Women and the YWCA. She was the first female to be appointed to any judiciary in the British Empire; she was appointed police magistrate to hear women's cases; and she was a member of the women's suffrage. She retired in 1932, after her involvement in the "Persons Case".
