school profiles

Please note | we’re building a new interactive mapping tool to make it easier to find schools using a familiar web interface, and will no longer be using the maps on this page. Because of that, these interactive maps show the boundaries for the 2013-14 school year, and may not be accurate for the 2014-15 school year. For current information, please refer to the “find a school by address” tool to find your designated school, see the list of schools by residential district and grade, or visit the school profile of the school you’re interested in to see the walk zone map in PDF. Thanks for your understanding, and we look forward to sharing our new site with you soon.

Unique Points

Students are offered an opportunity to construct their understanding of the world through a rich curriculum supported through Fine Arts and Science Education. Information literacy and technologies underpin all students’ learning. Our school’s Alberta Initiative for School Improvement focus is on 21st Century student learning and how we assess for learning. In February, 2011 all students worked with an artist in residence to create a mosaic at our front entrance. The mosaic represents the view from the school of the prairies. Each class created a smaller mosaic of animals native to Alberta. These mosaics are posted around the school. Our school was the recipient the Education Matters Grant for 2010-2011 for $5200. This money will support literacy. Students focused their thinking around questions about sustainable energy, anti-idling and we culminated the deep inquiry work through an Environmental Expo. The environmental expo involved multiple representations. Students also represented our school, presenting at the Enmax Showcase on May 26, 2011. We also received a grant from Conoco Phillips for $1000. This was used to help build our organic vegetable garden in June 2011. Extra Curricular Clubs We have several opportunities for students in K-6 to be a part of extra curricular activities. Clubs offered include a musical, dancing and drumming, backstage club, jr and sr chess club, math club, intramurals, running club, phys.ed leaders, eco club, handchimes, choir, chefs of Chaparral, French club, mad science and animation club.
