school profiles

Please note | we’re building a new interactive mapping tool to make it easier to find schools using a familiar web interface, and will no longer be using the maps on this page. Because of that, these interactive maps show the boundaries for the 2013-14 school year, and may not be accurate for the 2014-15 school year. For current information, please refer to the “find a school by address” tool to find your designated school, see the list of schools by residential district and grade, or visit the school profile of the school you’re interested in to see the walk zone map in PDF. Thanks for your understanding, and we look forward to sharing our new site with you soon.

Mountain Park School is located in the McKenzie Lake District of south east Calgary. We serve the communities of McKenzie Lake (grades 5 - 9), Douglasdale (grades 5-9) and Douglasglen (Grades 5-9). The elementary feeder schools for our school are McKenzie Lake School (K-4) and Douglasdale School (K - 4). Students move on to Lord Beaverbrook High School.

About the School

Mountain Park School has 28 classrooms, of which three are science / project rooms, and a number of small breakout rooms. Many of the classrooms have the flexibility to open a large door between two rooms creating a larger instructional space. We have a fantastic learning commons (library). We also have a band room, foods lab, art room, a Career and Technology shop, two learning labs filled with technology and a drama room that can convert into a stage. There are four physical education locations in the school (large main gymnasium, auxiliary gymnasium, dance studio and fitness studio). We also have a large multi-purpose area that serves many functions, including as our cafeteria (grades 7-9), a physical education area and as a school stage.

About School Name

Mountain Park School was named by a committee composed of parents, trustees and the principal, after receiving input by students, their families and the McKenzie Lake community.

School Mission

At Mountain Park School we develop responsible, respectful learners who achieve individual success and contribute positively as global citizens

Unique Points

Students are grouped into Learning Communities to help meet the needs of our middle school students. Our grade five students, depending on their learning needs, are transitioned into our school community initially having either one core teacher (a generalist) or two (Math / Science and Humanities), our grade 6-9 students have two core teachers. The school is fully networked, both hardwired and wireless, and has computers in each classroom, as well our Media Centre and two Learning Labs. Laptops are also available to infuse technology into students learning. We have an involved School Council that encourages parent / guardian participation. Mountain Park has a Student Services Team that helps students meet their diverse learning needs. Students provide input in a number of ways to continually improve our school . We have an outstanding complementary program that offers a variety of options to students from grades 5 through 9. Our music program also offers students in all grades the opportunity to play in outstanding bands. We have a comprehensive daily physical education program that includes a modular approach for our older students which respects student's choice, an intramural program which is extremely well attended and an outstanding athletic program, for all students from grades 5 through 9. A school focus is an Inquiry approach to learning.
