school profiles

Please note | we’re building a new interactive mapping tool to make it easier to find schools using a familiar web interface, and will no longer be using the maps on this page. Because of that, these interactive maps show the boundaries for the 2013-14 school year, and may not be accurate for the 2014-15 school year. For current information, please refer to the “find a school by address” tool to find your designated school, see the list of schools by residential district and grade, or visit the school profile of the school you’re interested in to see the walk zone map in PDF. Thanks for your understanding, and we look forward to sharing our new site with you soon.

Crescent Heights High School is located in the inner-city community of Crescent Heights , overlooking the beautiful Bow River valley.

About the School

Crescent Heights High School first opened in what is now Balmoral school in 1915. The current building opened in January 1929 with 21 classrooms, 4 science labs, and a gymnasium. In 1949 the North Wing with a music room, home economics rooms and more classrooms was added. In 1950-52 the the Technical Shop Wing was added with facilities for teaching automotives, building construction, arts and crafts, graphic arts, machine shop and a cafeteria were added. In 1954 what is still Calgary's largest and finest high school gymnasium was built. The next addition was the business education wing in 1965. In 1967 a library with a mezzanine and a lovely stained glass window opened. The most recent addition happened in 1987 with the addition of a second gymnasium built on pillers creating a covered parking lot, four science labs, a new office complex, a 235 seat theatre, a band room, and a student centre/cafeteria. All of these additions have resulted in Crescent now being a modern school that boasts 7 fully-networked Computer Learning Centers, 2 very modern gymnasiums, a fitness center, well-equipped technical shops, a multi-functional theater, an extensive band centre, a large 2 storey library, updated science labs, a food science lab, fashion and design studies rooms, and many historical architectural features throughout the school. A cafeteria and student center are the focal area at the school's main entrance. Crescent Heights is truly a school of choice as nearly 40% of our 1400 plus students come from outside our designated area. A tradition of excellence, and a student-centered learning environment draw students from across the city to enjoy the urban educational experience. Crescent is home to the Traditional Learning Centre, and offers an Advance Placement Program. Crescent is a school where every student is provided with the support necessary for them to experience success. Crescent Heights has a code of conduct based around the word PRIDE (positive, respectful, involved, dedicated, enthusiastic.)
