Harold Panabaker School is located in the southwest community of Southwood a block off Elbow Drive on a very spacious park area that is shared by the community center and the school.

The school serves the communities of Evergreen Estates, Millrise, Shawnee Slopes, Somerset and Southwood. The elementary feeder schools are Eugene Coste and Ethel M. Johnson. Harold Panabaker is a French Immersion School for student living South of Glenmore Trail and West of MacLeod Trail.

Based on the community in which they live students from Harold Panabaker are designated to two High Schools: Centennial (Evergreen Estates, Millrise, Shawnee Slopes and Somerset) and Dr. E.P. Scarlett (Southwood).

About the School

Harold Panabaker was named in the honour of Mr. Harold Panabaker and opened in 1963. He is an example of excellence in academic achievement and citizenship. We are pleased to promote excellence as a tribute to the schools name sake. We have enhanced our learning programs with increased access to technology in our school. The use of wireless laptops, smart boards, and digital on-line learning environments all contribute to student success. In addition to academic achievement we are pleased to offer our learners an enhanced fitness center as well as an outdoor sports court to enrich our active daily living curriculm. The location of our school is ideal. The adjoining park area that backs onto Harold Panabaker provides for well-situated and maintained sports fields. We have several opportunities to work with various services offered throughout the community, from neighbouring elementary schools to senior facilities. We have many opportunities to reinforce active citizenship with our students.

About School Name

Harold Panabaker School was named in the honour of Mr. Harold Panabaker. Mr. Panabaker became a teacher in 1921. He taught in schools near Edmonton and then moved to Calgary to become Vice-Principal at Hillhurst School. He went on to become an Assistant Superintendent of Schools for the Calgary School System in 1945. He was always an educator, teaching, writing and learning until his death in 1977. Mr. Panabaker left a legacy to the school in perpetuity, which is used to provide books for award winners in June every year.

At Panabaker we create a positive environment that promotes quality learning opportunities for all students and provide students with a safe and secure environment in which to learn.
