R.T. Alderman is located in the southeast community of Maple Ridge serving the communities of Maple Ridge, Willow Park, Douglasdale and Douglasglen. The feeder elementary schools are Maple Ridge, Willow Park and Douglasdale. Students move on to Lord Beaverbrook High School.

About the School
|
Our School is thirty five years old at present. It has a very distinctive design shared by two other Calgary schools. Student painted murals and displays of students' art work are located throughout the school. Our school colours are blue on blue. Our teams are called the Blues. The school also has a playground, computer lab (both Macintosh and PC), library, and Gymnasium.

About School Name

| R.T. Alderman - The Man
Robert Thomas Alderman, a native of England came to Canada in 1910 at the age of 16. A carpenter by trade, he was employed by the C.P.R. until his retirement in 1949. He was married and had two daughters and one son.
He enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Force in 1915 and served overseas with the 10th battalion for four years during the first world war.
Mr. Alderman's interest in civic affairs was keen and he served on both City Council and the Calgary School Board. He was elected to the Calgary School Board in 1932 and served with the board until 1940, being chairman in 1939, It was during Mr. Alderman's term in office that junior high schools were started in Calgary.
Mr. Alderman's interest in the life and work of the community was great and some of the activities he was engaged in are listed below:
Associate Director of the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede Board.
Director of the YMCA for 10 years.
Member of the Family Bureau.
Vice Chairman of the Calgary Labor Council in 1945.
Member of the senate of the University of Alberta from 1943-1946 and of the Calgary University Committee for many years.
Charter Director of the Golden Age Club.
Member of the Knights of the Round Table.
Member of St. Michael's and All Angel's Anglican Church.
Member of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Mr. Alderman died in Calgary in October, 1969. We are proud to have our school named in honor of this outstanding Calgarian.
