Braeside School is located in the southwest community of Braeside. Braeside School offers lunch programs for students Grades One to Six. The Braeside Community Centre adjacent to our school offers before and after school child care. We are also close to Southland Leisure Centre, which provides a variety of activities for families.

Students from Braeside School move on to John Ware School for Grades 7-9 and then Dr. E.P. Scarlett High School or Henry Wise Wood High School.

About the School

The school was built in 1968 and is situated on 7.36 acres. The school has a large centrally located library, gym, large music room with risers, and is mostly open area in design. Students may work in a closed computer lab setting or in computer pods around the school. School Council, parents and staff built a new playground in June 2001.

The school was named after the community it serves.

  • School Council provides the financial support for field trips (eg. Leighton Art Centre, Science Centre, Glenbow Museum, Shannon Terrance Conservation Centre, Police Interpretative Center), yearly Artist in Residency programs (eg. Three Left Feet Dance Troupe, Le Boucheron, Georgia Graham-illustrator One World Drumming-Music Company, Zinhour Fathoulin-Cultural art, music and dance and regular author visits.
  • Grade 4,5 6 students receive French as a Second Language
  • Many dedicated volunteers who support our literacy focus and active field trip schedule
  • Strong Student Leadership Program of Environmental and Recyling Club, Patrols, Office Helpers, Technology Helpers, Library Helpers and Buddies
  • Excellent fine arts program consisting of Division One & Two Choirs, Handbells,
  • Grade 6 Outdoor School
  • Active Living for grade 4 & 5
  • Swimming Program for Kindergarten to grade 3
  • Numerous extra-curricular clubs- Drama Club, Technology Club, Library Pages, Knitting Club, Recycling Club, Basketball, Health Club, School Spirit Club, Ballet, Chess & Board Games Club.
