System calendars establish common start and end days, and 10 system-wide days for schools to schedule parent-teacher conferences, professional development and organizational days. Schools may identify additional non-instructional days, late entries or early dismissals in consultation with their school community and area director, and in alignment with Alberta Education and CBE requirements for instruction.
While most of our schools follow the traditional calendar, a number use a modified calendar with an earlier start to the school year and additional breaks throughout the year. They're listed below.
2015-2016 School Calendars Approved
The Calgary Board of Education has approved the system instructional calendars for the 2015-2016 school year. These calendars are updated from the tentative calendars previously linked to this page.
Highlights of 2015-2016 calendars:
- 10 system-wide non-instruction days in each calendar.
- First day of school for students in the traditional calendar is Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015.
- First day of school for students in the modified calendar is Monday, Aug. 17, 2015.
The modified calendar is adapted by some schools with special settings to reflect the unique learning needs of their community. This table shows schools following the modified calendar, special setting calendars (click on any of them for more details), or an all-year calendar.
School Start and End Times
The start and end times for each day, as well as any early dismissal days, are defined individually for each school. Please check your school's website for details.
