CBE Board of Trustees Responds to Bill 25

Mar. 31, 2026

Today, the Minister of Education and Childcare introduced Bill 25: An Act to Remove Politics and Ideology from Classrooms and Amend the Education Act, 2026. While details are limited, this Bill includes a myriad of proposals that affect students, schools, community and Calgarians. There are deep reaching changes that will impact day-to-day operations, governance, system strategies, Board of Trustees’ oversight, and property ownership.

As elected trustees, we are deeply committed to the communities we serve and believe that strong public education is best supported through local decision making. Recently, the Board of Trustees approved the CBE 2027-2030 Three-Year School Capital Plan requesting 27 projects for new and modernized learning spaces across Calgary.  We believe public schools are the heart of a community. Right now, most CBE schools are full and new schools are still needed.

Our goal is, and has always been, that CBE students achieve their potential in safe and respectful learning environments. The CBE is non-partisan and politically neutral. Our role as a board is to advance student success.
