The Calgary Board of Education offers French programming for students at different stages of their educational journey, whether they are beginning in Kindergarten, starting in junior high, or exploring an accelerated language-learning option. No prior French experience is required to register, making these programs accessible to families interested in giving their child the lifelong benefits of learning a second language.

French Program Options

Early French Immersion (Kindergarten–Grade 12)
Students begin learning in French in Kindergarten or Grade 1 and continue developing their French language skills throughout their education. French is the primary language of instruction in the early years, with students gradually building proficiency across subjects while becoming confident French speakers, readers and writers.

Late French Immersion (Grade 7–12)
Students can begin a French Immersion pathway in Grade 7, even without previous French experience. This program provides students with the opportunity to develop strong French language skills while continuing their studies through junior high and high school.

Intensive French (Grade 6)
Students in Grade 6 can participate in an accelerated French learning experience focused on building practical communication skills. This program helps students develop confidence in listening, speaking, reading and writing in French.
