The Calgary Board of Education Board of Trustees has selected the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) and their Youth Initiatives programs as the CBE nominee for the Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA) Friends of Education Award. This award recognizes organizations that have made significant contributions to education in communities across Alberta.
SAIT is one of Calgary’s most established post-secondary institutions and is widely recognized for its applied, hands-on approach to learning that connects students directly with industry. Through its Youth Initiatives programs, SAIT provides learning opportunities for students in Grades 4 to 12 that support career exploration, skill development and dual credit learning.
The CBE has a strong, long-standing relationship with SAIT’s Youth Initiatives team, working together to create meaningful learning experiences and pathways for students as they move from high school to post-secondary education.
Each year, hundreds of CBE students participate in Youth Initiatives programming. These programs help students:
- Explore career pathways and develop practical skills through hands-on learning experiences
- Participate in dual credit opportunities that connect high school and post-secondary education
- Build confidence and understanding of future opportunities through programs such as Turning Points and Exploring Skilled Trades
In addition to supporting students directly, SAIT Youth Initiatives demonstrates leadership in education through strong industry partnerships and a commitment to innovation, sustainability, Indigenous education and community engagement.
By nominating SAIT Youth Initiatives for the Friends of Education Award, the Board of Trustees is recognizing a valued partner whose work continues to create meaningful opportunities for students and strengthen public education in Calgary.
“SAIT Youth Initiatives exemplifies the spirit of the Friends of Education Award through their sustained partnership, meaningful contributions to student success and leadership in our community,” said Board Chair Laura Hack.
Congratulations to SAIT Youth Initiatives on this nomination.
