CBE Partners with APPLE Schools to Enhance Student Well-Being

Feb. 23, 2024

The CBE has partnered with APPLE (A Project Promoting Healthy Living for Everyone) Schools, to promote nutrition, physical activity, and mental well-being in two CBE schools, Douglas Harkness School and Rundle School.  Through this partnership, a School Health Facilitator (SHF) is supported to promote physical activity, positive mental well-being and healthy eating throughout the school community. The SHF works with students, parents, school staff, and community members to develop a school action plan that will create and maintain a culture of well-being. Participating schools will be able to support and embed culturally specific and unique needs and goals into their school programming that make healthy living fun and engaging for students.

APPLE Schools is an innovative school-focused health promotion initiative. It improves the lives of over 30,000 students annually in 97 schools in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba and the Northwest Territories.

The Calgary Flames Foundation has teamed up with APPLE Schools to support student health in southern Alberta with a $750,000 donation.

Kick-off assemblies were held at Douglas Harkness School and Rundle School on Feb. 14 to celebrate the partnerships, Calgary Flames players and Harvey the Hound joined students for some entertaining movement activities.
