Construction is well underway on the new middle school, Evanston Heights, with an expected opening date of September 2026. It will be the designated Regular Program school for students living in the community of Evanston in Grades 4 to 8. Grade 9 will be added the following school year.
The school is located at 221 Evanston Drive NW.
As the City of Calgary continues to grow, the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) continues to prioritize providing strong, stable learning environments that keep peers together, while working to ease enrolment pressures.
The principal for Evanston Heights School will be announced spring 2026.
Note, Evanston Heights School is anticipated to be at capacity and will only accommodate students living within the community of Evanston. Out-of-attendance area students will not be accepted.

Who can attend Evanston Heights School?
Beginning in the 2026-27 school year, students who live within the Evanston boundary will go to Evanston Heights School for Grades 4 to 8, including:
- Grades 3 and 4 students currently at Kenneth D. Taylor or Cambrian Heights
- Grades 5 to 7 students currently at Simon Fraser or William D. Pratt
- Note, Grade 9 will be added the next school year, beginning 2027. This means, if your child is currently in Grade 8, they will stay at their current school for Grade 9 for the 2026–27 school year. No action is needed.
- If your child is currently enrolled in an alternative or language program in Grades 3 to 7 and you want them to attend Evanston Heights School, you must inform your current principal of the intent to transfer to the Regular Program.
- All students new to the CBE who live in Evanston and will be attending Evanston Heights School, will need to register online.

Board of Trustees Announces School Name
Evanston Heights is the name of the new Calgary Board of Education middle school under construction in the northwest community of Evanston. The Board of Trustees approved the name on Aug. 25, 2025.
The Board of Trustees selected Evanston Heights after gathering input through a school name recommendation committee and a community survey. The committee is comprised of CBE Trustees, parents and/or community representatives and members of CBE administration.
The name Evanston Heights was one of the name recommendations put forward by the committee. It reflects the main themes from the feedback gathered, including the importance of including the community's name in the school's name. The word “heights" reflects the community's desire for every student to reach their full potential, as well as the fact that the school is built on a hill.

The construction status is updated using the Construction Projects Status Report, which is presented quarterly to the Board of Trustees.
