In partnership with Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), Medical Terminology (MEDT211) is an introductory course that enables the learner to use and understand the medical terminology common to most health personnel. By learning prefixes, suffixes, and word roots, the learner will be able to build, use, and spell medical words that relate to body systems and body organization. Common abbreviations and symbols are also included.

Eligibility
Open to all CBE high school students who:
- are in grades 11 or 12 during the program
- have a strong interest in exploring a pathway in health sciences
- are excited about taking a post-secondary course through an online format
- pre-requisite requirements:
- Biology 20 is a pre-requisite, and priority will be given to students with Biology 30
Note: exceptions can be made regarding the Bio 20 pre-requisite for students enrolled in the full-year Medical Office Assistant program in the Fall who need to access this learning. Please connect with your Off-Campus Coordinator if this applies to you. - English Language Arts 10-1 or English Language Arts 10-2 (minimum 60%)

Location & Delivery
This course is offered online, through a blended format. Students will meet live with their instructor (synchronous learning) during scheduled times AND will be required to complete work independently (asynchronous learning).

Summer | July and the beginning of August (5 weeks)
Anticipated Program Times
Timetable Requirements
Students must have the first five weeks of summer (all of July and the first week of August) to dedicate to this program. Students can not be enrolled in any other summer school program (work experience is a potential exception) and must consider any travel plans that could impact internet access and availability in order to accommodate this program.
Workload
Students can expect a total of 9 synchronous hours per week (online with instructor) and approximately 10 hours of additional independent work per week for a total of 19 hours per week.

Considerations
- Online synchronous courses are live with the post-secondary instructor. They run at set times and attendance is required.
- Students must have space in their school timetable to accommodate the program times.
- Students must also have time in their lives outside of school to complete work for their Dual Credit program in addition to their regular school assignments.
- Students must meet all course assignments, quizzes, and test deadlines in order to be successful.
- Students must submit a personal learning schedule with their application, which outlines when they will work on their Dual Credit coursework outside of class time.
- Students must be registered as a full-time student, taking at least one course at their home high school during the program (work experience excluded).
- Students will be expected to communicate regularly with both their CBE supervising teacher and their course instructor.

- Read through the course(s) and/or program(s) of interest.
- Review program choice with your school Off-Campus Coordinator and/or Guidance Counsellor for program readiness and timetabling concerns.
- You are highly encouraged to attend the Unique Pathways Information Night to ask questions of our program partners and determine if the program is a good fit for you. Connect with your Off-Campus Coordinator or Guidance counsellor if you are unable to attend.
- Download and fill in the Dual Credit Application Form Package when available.
- Refer to the application checklist and ensure all items are complete.
- Book an appointment with your Off-Campus Coordinator and/or Guidance Counsellor before the deadline to complete your application, including signatures from all parties.
- The school will submit the application to Unique Pathways on your behalf.
