K-12 Math Strategy Engagement

Update | June 30

Today, we are pleased to share our K-12 Mathematics Strategy Overview.

In the fall, we will be sharing more details about the strategy with schools and parents. Through the school development planning process, schools will be working with their communities to identify how the strategy can contribute to their specific goals.

K-12 Mathematics Strategy Overview

Update | June 8, 2017

Thank you for your interest in the CBE’s K-12 Math Strategy and your participation in our engagement process. We had two types of opportunities including an online survey and several in-person engagement sessions for you to share your thoughts on what we should consider as we develop the Math Strategy. As part of our engagement process we are committed to sharing the input that we received through those engagements. Please click on the links below for the results.

The input we received from educators, school administrators, post-secondary professors, mathematicians, students, parents and community members through our engagements along with research and best practices in math education is being incorporated into our K-12 Math Strategy.

The Math Strategy is currently being completed and an overview of the strategy will be shared with the public by the end of June 2017.

Our goal for the strategy is to create a common understanding of math teaching and learning across the CBE and to share best practices and resources among teachers to help our students to be more successful. We also want to deepen parent and community understanding of the research and best practices around teaching and learning in math.

The math curriculum is set by Alberta Education, and we have always worked closely with them to ensure that our work is aligned with their direction in education.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on math learning.

In-person engagement sessions

We held five in-person engagement session from Feb. 27 to Mar. 16 at various schools throughout Calgary. We heard from approximately 200 people at these sessions.

Thank you to everyone who participated.
