Alternative High School (AHS or Alti) is a school for academically capable students with internalizing behaviors who struggle to succeed in the anonymity of larger high schools.
They will benefit from the mentorship and relationship building that we offer. Students are expected to join into the welcome, caring, inclusive and respectful community at Alternative High and work with teachers and their peers to help reduce the barriers to academic achievement.
Alti has a regular timetable like other high schools and daily, full-time attendance is mandatory. Although many of our students have a mental health profile or other learning challenges, we do not have a guidance counsellor, resource teacher, quiet study spaces or pull-out support. Students need to be independent enough in their learning to receive their accommodations in the classroom while the teacher is teaching.
