Operating Budget for Next Year
In February 2024, the Government of Alberta provided all school boards with preliminary funding information for Budget 2024-25. On March 28, 2024, the CBE received its 2024-25 funding profile which provides a detailed breakdown of provincial funding specifically for the Calgary Board of Education.
CBE will receive about $1.4 billion in provincial funding to support 140,000+ students we expect to welcome next year and the operation of 251 schools. Our focus will be to continue to provide programming, supports and services that meet the needs of students while being responsible stewards of public dollars.
As part of the budgeting process, Administration presented the
Budget Assumptions Report to the Board of Trustees on April 9, 2024. This report lays out the CBE’s operating revenues and expense assumptions that will be incorporated into the budget.
In mid-April, schools receive their individual funding allocations. Each school then plans for the teachers, education assistants, and other staff who will be needed to support the students in their schools.
CBE continues to experience significant enrolment growth and the student population is becoming increasingly diverse. We will balance the impacts of growing and changing enrolment on our infrastructure, educational programming, transportation services, technology requirements and more in the 2024-25 budget.
The budget will be presented over two board meetings in May and must be approved and sent to Alberta Education by May 31.
