Susan feels honoured to have been re-elected by the voters of Wards 8 and 9 and she is thrilled to continue to serve as a public school board trustee.
Susan has a B.A. in Political Science and an MBA, both from the University of Alberta.
Prior to being first elected as a school board trustee in 2021, Susan worked for 20 years as a policy analyst and a project consultant. She began her career with the Government of Alberta on September 11, 2001. After moving to Calgary, she continued in the policy field with The City of Calgary for several years and then switched to doing contract work for the private, public and not-for-profit sectors.
Susan has been a lifelong community leader and mobilizer, and a long-time advocate for children, education and equity. She has over two decades of Board-level volunteer experience, including as president of a residents' association, vice-chair on a municipal board in Edmonton, a school-council chair and a Board member with four different fundraising societies.
Susan is proud that the CBE employs some of the best people in education in the country, and proud that CBE students score among the top in the world on international standardized tests. During the 2025-29 four-year term, the CBE Board of Trustees will have to work hard alongside other community members to increase awareness of the strength of our public education system, and to advocate for proper funding and support for Calgary’s public schools.
Susan and her husband, Stephen, have three children—all CBE students, of course. Their household also includes five sets of skis, three hockey bags and a dog, Bruno, who jumps up on the couch when no one is looking.
