Student Accident Insurance is available to support students who are injured in an accident during school-related activities. This is a self-serve resource. The information below will explain what it is, including eligibility and coverage, as well as how to access it. Please note, Parents or guardians are responsible for submitting claims directly to the insurer. CBE and its Schools do not submit claims or act on behalf of families.
This plan provides supplemental accident coverage. It may help with certain costs related to an accidental injury. Coverage is limited and subject to policy terms, conditions and exclusions. Final decisions about coverage and claims are made by the insurer. This insurance is not primary coverage, however could provide additional financial support if an accidental injury occurs during school-related activities.
Coverage & Eligibility
Coverage may apply when a student is injured as a result of an accident while: at school; participating in a school-approved and supervised activity; taking part in Work Experience, Volunteer or RAP placements; travelling directly to or from school or a school activity.
If eligible, the plan may help with certain costs resulting from an accidental injury, such as:
- medical or dental expenses
- emergency transportation
- treatment or rehabilitation supports
- other benefits defined in the policy
Claims must be submitted within the timeframes set by the insurer. Refer to the policy and coverage summary for full details.
The plan generally applies to students enrolled with the CBE and participating in school programs and activities. International and exchange students are not included in this plan.
Important to Know
This plan is secondary insurance. Other coverage must be used first, including Alberta Health, personal or employer health and dental plans, and any other available insurance. The CBE does not determine eligibility or approve claims. Parents or guardians are responsible for submitting claims directly to the insurer.
How to submit a Claim
If you believe an injury may be covered: review the policy and coverage summary; complete the claim form; submit the form and supporting documents to the insurer. Claims must be submitted within the timelines outlined by the insurer.
