Best Buy Grant for Children's Village School

Jun. 26, 2018

This spring, Children’s Village School was the fortunate recipient of a grant for $9,982.00, awarded by Best Buy Canada. Each year, Best Buy offers grants of up to $10,000 through their School Technology Grant Program. This year, Children’s Village was selected from 740 applicants across Canada as one of 13 grant award winners. '

Children’s Village School is a unique setting within the Calgary Board of Education; our students are a diverse group of individuals who all have experienced social, emotional or behavioural challenges that have created obstacles to learning in their community schools. A number of our students experience dramatic improvements in the quality of their learning, and particularly the quality of their writing, when they have access to assistive technology. With our Best Buy grant, we will be purchasing a number of laptops for our school. We will also be purchasing iPod shuffles for our students to use on the bus. Children’s Village students travel from across the city to attend our school; often, the commute sets the tone for the whole day. Listening to music or stories, as they travel, is one way to help students arrive at school calm, happy and ready to learn.

Overcoming obstacles is at the core of everything we do at the Village. Our Best Buy grant is one more way we are creating access to learning for our students.
