Board of Trustees Approves Annual Education Results Report 2021-22

Dec. 14, 2022

At its regular public board meeting on Dec. 13, the Board of Trustees approved the Annual Education Results Report (AERR).

Each year, the CBE prepares the AERR for Alberta Education, providing a comprehensive account of performance for the previous school year. The AERR outlines progress on priorities and outcomes as it relates to the CBE’s Education Plan

The Education Plan connects each CBE employee to student success through the Board of Trustees’ priorities of achievement, equity and well-being

High school completion rates continue to increase, students’ Provincial Achievement Test and diploma exam results were consistently higher than the province, and students reported being more engaged in their learning at school than students in the province as a whole.

“We are so proud of the accomplishments, dedication and commitment of CBE staff and students,” said Laura Hack, Chair of the Board of Trustees. “This report demonstrates that despite the challenges of the past year, students continue to achieve success in their learning. We have much to celebrate.”

The 2021-22 school year was characterized by learning disruptions caused by the ongoing pandemic, which included significant absence rates of students and staff members, transitions to at-home learning as well as optional participation and reduced weighting of diploma examinations. Despite this, the results demonstrate that CBE students continue to be successful.

“I am proud of what CBE students continue to achieve,” said Christopher Usih, Chief Superintendent of Schools. “In addition to celebrating our success, we’ve been able to identify areas for growth which are expected to improve learning outcomes and address our goal of achieving success for each and every student.”

The report details the responsive and broad range of professional learning offered across schools and the entire system last year followed by key plans for the 2022-23 school year in response to the provincial and local measures.. We celebrate the continued collaboration across all schools and service units.

Detailed results of the 2021-22 school year are available in the Annual Education Results Reportas well as a Summary of the results.
