Supporting the Calgary Food Bank at the Mayor's 31st Annual Christmas Food Drive Kick-Off Event

The CBE is a long-time supporter of the Calgary Food Bank. We appreciate the positive impact the organization makes in our communities, our schools and in the lives of many of our students and their families. One of the ways we give our support back is during the Mayor's Annual Christmas Food Drive.

We do this each December, at both at the kick-off event and with drives in some of our schools. This year marks the 31st Mayor's Annual Christmas Food Drive and, anecdotally, the CBE has participated since the first drive and usually has the most schools participating in a school-based drive.

Earlier this week, a small but enthusiastic group of CBE employees participated in the kick-off event along with other public organizations, local businesses, media outlets and Mayor Nenshi. Our group of fierce competitors raced around Crowfoot Safeway grabbing some of the Calgary Food Bank's most requested items. The group partnered with the Wild 95.3 and 101.5 FM Today Radio participants. Together, we then built a structure with the gathered groceries and sang a modified rendition of The 12 Days of Christmas crafted especially for the mayor. We came away from the event with a third place win and the Bronze Shopping Cart award, but the real winner is the Calgary Food Bank and everyone it supports in our community.

Several schools will be holding a food drive during November and December. All of the food and donations collected go to the Calgary Food Bank, to feed families and individuals in need during the holidays. The 2018 city-wide campaign raised a total of $1.2 million in food and funds. The mayor has big goals for this year's drive and encouraged everyone to donate generously.
