Supporting the Whole Child | CBE Helps Kick Off the 30th Annual Mayor’s Christmas Food Drive

Dec. 09, 2018

On Thursday Nov. 22, a battle of the shopping carts between Calgary media and Food Bank supporters took place at Canada Safeway’s Southcentre location. The event kicks off the 30th anniversary of the Annual Mayor’s Food Drive. This fun-filled event was about creating awareness of the essential need to support the Calgary Food Bank, especially during this holiday season.

The Calgary Board of Education team, which included Area Directors Sylvie Monfette and Jeff Hutton, along with members of CBE Corporate Partnerships, partnered with Country 105 radio hosts and chuckwagon driver Dustin Gorst. Our team took home the gold in this friendly competition, but the true winners in this event are the Calgary Food Bank and Calgarians.

The Mayor’s Christmas Food Drive runs from Dec. 1-24.  Calgary Board of Education schools are one of the largest donors to this initiative, collecting over $600,000 in food and funds last year. Wish list items for the foodbank include canned peas, green beans, mixed vegetables and meats, as well as gluten free items and baby food.  Schools may take part in the drive this year by collecting non-perishable food donations or money for the Calgary Food Bank.
