CBE Recognized as a Leader in Cleaning with International Certification

Apr. 21, 2021

The Calgary Board of Education has been recognized as a leader in its efforts to create clean and healthy environments for students and staff in our schools by the International Sanitary Supply Association (ISSA).

In recognition of our high standards of cleaning, the CBE is the first K-12 school district in Canada granted certification as a Cleaning Industry Management Standards–Green Building (CIMS - GB) with Honors organization.

“Ensuring that our school buildings are clean and ready to welcome students and staff is the mandate of Facilities staff. This accreditation is the result of many years of improvements and the ongoing commitment to sustainable cleaning of our buildings,” says Dany Breton, superintendent of Facilities and Environmental Services.

The multi-year journey to achieve this certification began during the 2014-15 school year. Since that time school cleaning work and task tracking have been combined into an online dashboard. This allowed custodial staff have a better understanding of the standard expectations for their work schedule and work areas. As well, a custodial improvement and engagement committee collectively developed cleaning and green cleaning quality policy.
“CBE students and staff can be assured that they benefit from our implementation of standardized cleaning industry best practices. Our progress has been assessed by the ISSA to verify our systems and operations are structured to deliver consistently high-quality service. Moreover, ISSA will assess the CBE annually to help ensure this high-quality service is maintained,” says Breton.

Congratulations to the entire FES team on this achievement!
