CBE Students Win 12 Medals at the Skills Alberta Virtual Competition

CBE students demonstrated resilience, exceptional talent and skills as they competed in the 2020 Skills Alberta Virtual Competition. 

Traditionally, the CBE team travels to Edmonton for the annual competition. This year, Skills Canada Alberta adapted and moved the competition online. "The 2020 Skills Alberta Virtual Competition provides a platform for secondary students to continue developing their skills while showcasing their excellence," organizers said. The live-streamed awards ceremony took place on May 29.  

Skills Alberta Canada seeks to promote skilled trades and technologies. The goals are to promote career pathways in the trades and technologies and work to enhance the quality of technological education. Participation in the provincial skills competition supports the three-year education plan. 

Thirteen CBE high schools participated in the 2020 virtual competition, including Centennial, Central Memorial, Ernest Manning, Forest Lawn, Henry Wise Wood, James FowlerJoane Cardinal-SchubertJohn G. Diefenbaker, Lester B. Pearson, Lord Beaverbrook, Nelson Mandela, Sir Winston Churchill and The Career and Technology Centre.

The CBE group earned 12 medals at the Alberta Virtual Competition: four gold; five silver; and three bronze. A total of 56 students participated in 20 (of 23) skilled trades and technologies competition events.
