Nickle School Student Entrepreneurs Learn Business Skills while Raising Money for Charity

Jun. 15, 2017

Students in the Entrepreneurship 7 class at Nickle School had the opportunity to participate in an Entrepreneurial Adventure which involved raising money for the Alberta Cancer Foundation. Students raised money with an Oreo Obstacle Challenge and a year-end Carnival.

Students selected and presented charity options to the rest of the class. After a vote, the Alberta Cancer Foundation was selected as the recipient of the raised funds.

Students Alayna F. & Sophia K described the process of designing and selecting their fundraiser.

“Our next step was to figure out how we were going to raise money. We got together to present our fundraising business plans with each other. There were many creative ideas. It was a tough decision, especially when each person could only choose their top 3 ideas. Finally, the winners were announced. The Oreo Obstacle Challenge and the Carnival were our winners.”

Students learned about advertising and sales as they prepared for their event. They made posters, wrote scripts for announcements and visited grade 5 and 6 classrooms to reach their target consumers.

“At the EA Showcase on May 25th, we were very proud to accept an award, with $100 going to The Alberta Cancer Foundation, for our innovative thinking and the processes. We went through a lot of hard work to get where we are now. Over all, the Entrepreneurial Adventure program was a lot of fun and we would totally suggest participating in it to any school.”
