Is your child interested in robotics? Being an animator or videographer? Did you know that Calgary is a thriving global tech hub? The CBE is taking career development to the next level with expanded program offerings in the field of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT). CBE Digital Futures Pathway will be essential in preparing high school students for diverse careers in the ever-expanding technology sector. With funding from Alberta Education through a collegiate grant proposal, CBE Digital Futures Pathway is a newly designed “collegiate in the cloud” concept being delivered online (and in some instances in person) to provide enhanced learning opportunities and career development programming. In partnership with SAIT, Digital Futures Pathway will give students across CBE high schools the opportunity to find career pathways and build capacity in areas of ICT.
While assisting students on their journey to high school completion, the pathways design will provide early exposure and a head start in pursuing meaningful work or post-secondary education with a specific focus. The program will be developed over the next year to be available to Grade 10 students in 2024-25 with additional grades to follow.
Existing spaces in high schools will be used to create experiential learning opportunities through unique environments such as an Innovation Tech Lab, Mechatronics and Automation Lab, ICT and Networking Lab as well as access to SAIT facilities where relevant.
Alongside SAIT’s School for Advanced Digital Technology, there will be a variety of cutting-edge programs and training pathways including, but not limited to:
- Basic Programming
- Control Systems Tester
- Digital Technologist
- Microprocessor Design and Programming
- Web Developer
By engaging in career development in high school, students can make informed decisions about their education and career paths setting them up for success in the workforce. As CBE Digital Futures Pathway develops, more information will become available.
