Trustees Recognize Hull Services as a Nominee for the ASBA Friends of Education Award

Jun. 28, 2023

Hull Services, a valued organization providing mental health services to children, youth and families, was selected by the Board of Trustees in March as the CBE nominee for the Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA) Friends of Education Award. This award recognizes organizations that have made a significant contribution to education in communities across Alberta.

At the CBE’s June 20 public board meeting, the Board recognized and celebrated the nomination of Hull Services and reflected on its work within the CBE.

Hull Services has been working in the Calgary community supporting youth and families for more than 60 years, and has a long standing partnership with the CBE spanning more than 40 years. The organization has consistently been a leader in supporting education across Calgary.

Over the course of the previous year, Hull Services has supported more than 9,000 students and families through an ongoing partnership with the CBE, Children’s Services and the Calgary Catholic School Board with services for youth, adolescents, and adults.

Within CBE, Hull Services provides highly trained, specialized staff that support both Children’s Village School and William Roper Hull School. Servicing the CBE’s most complex students and families, Hull Services has demonstrated leadership and expertise around trauma-informed practice, the neurosequential model of support, and other research-based methods to support students. Hull Services also provides training for staff in trauma-informed practice, supporting their ongoing professional development.

Programs within the CBE include secure treatment, Reflections program, and justice system support. Hull Services continues to support students in CBE schools after leaving the setting (especially for transitional purposes), working with satellite classes, caregivers, social workers and other support networks.

Trustee for Wards 11 & 13 Nancy Close said a recent visit to William Roper Hull School and Hull Services campus showed her the impact this organization has on students.

“The partnership the CBE has with Hull Services is incredible,” said Close. “Together, we provide the needed resources, services and relationships for students to succeed in their education. Hull Services’ presence enriches the lives of students and staff alike and this is a much deserved nomination.”

Thank you to Hull Services for its demonstrated commitment to creating conditions for success and positive outcomes for children and youth in the CBE. Congratulations on the nomination Hull Services - a true friend of education!
