David Thompson School raised $601,843.56 in this year’s Mayor’s Annual Food Drive for the Calgary Food Bank. This earned them the top spot in the Canstruction Jr. Contest run in conjunction with the food drive. The school was treated to a celebration hosted by Mayor Nenshi and other dignitaries to celebrate this impressive achievement.
The Canstruction Jr. Contest involves building an amazing structure using non-perishable food items as building blocks. This year’s theme was I-Can-ic Structures and after the judging of these structures all food is then donated to the annual food drive.
Eleven structures were created for the Canstruction Jr. Contest this year.
- David Thompson won the People’s Choice Award for their rendition of the Chicken on the Way
- West Springs Grade 1 class won the Structural Integrity Award for The Bow
- West Springs Grade 5/6 class won the Best Use of Theme for Big Ben
Congratulations to all students and schools that contributed to the Mayor’s Annual Food Drive and the Canstruction Jr. Contest.
