Windsor Park School marked a major milestone this year with the grand opening of its newly re-established community elementary program.
Originally built in 1956, the school served as a community hub until 2008, when it transitioned to the CBE's home education program. In 2025, responding to a growing number of young families in the area, Windsor Park reopened as a kindergarten to Grade 3 school, with plans to expand to Grade 4 next year.
“The school's grand re-opening celebrates not only a return to its roots, but a fresh start shaped by the creativity and perspectives of its students," says Christine McCrory, principal of Windsor Park School.
As part of the school's re-opening, students played a central role in shaping its identity by designing a new official logo.
Kindergarten students selected colours that represent happiness, warmth, and safety, while Grade 1 students chose the puffin as the school's symbol, emphasizing themes of love, strength, and belonging. Grade 2 students explored what makes Windsor Park special, identifying values such as kindness, friendship, and respect.
Grade 3 students then brought all the ideas together, using shapes and design principles to create the final logo with support from the CBE graphic design team.
The result is a logo that reflects Windsor Park's identity as “a welcoming, peaceful, and proud community," and highlights the importance of student voice in building a strong school culture.
