November Diploma Exams - Diploma Exemptions

Diploma Exam Excemptions

Alberta Education informed school boards on Oct. 13 that November 2020 diploma exams are optional and the decision to write resides with students and their parents.

While the decision to write November 2020 diploma exams resides with students and their parents, exemptions (course mark counts for 100% of official mark) only apply to students currently taking the course and who also receive a school-awarded mark for Quarter 1 (September to November courses).  In CBE there are a handful of classes to which this applies.

There are also a number of CBE students who had taken a diploma course previous to the start of the 2020-21 school year who have registered to write one or more November 2020 Diploma Examinations.  Most of these students are either writing the diploma exam because they missed writing it when they took the course or are seeking a higher mark.  These students are not exempt from writing the diploma exam, however, if they wish to defer the exam to a later sitting (Jan., Apr., June) they may.  Students wishing to defer are asked to let their school’s administration know by the end of the week.

We will continue to provide the opportunity for these CBE students registered to write November 2020 diploma exams to do so based on the Alberta Education exam schedule.

Sincerely,

School Improvement
